Let's talk about loneliness.

Your life thus far has been caring for others. Enjoy the fruits of your labor by being an active, contributing senior citizen. Replace the loneliness in your life with a contribution of a warm heart, caring smile, talent, or trade.  The younger generations can always benefit from wisdom and support from you.

The great poet, Robert Browning wrote that the “last of our life, for which the first was made” should be a wise, and a glorious time. However, this is not the case for many seniors of today.  Life can be a daily struggle for those seniors who must depend on others for daily needs.  Restrictions in life cause us all to withdraw and be less active in the things we can do.  Therefore, loneliness is a common side effect of the constant struggle for senior independence.

To beat loneliness, a great resource for seniors today is individuals around the same age. So much focus is on spouse, children, grandchildren, and other family members throughout adulthood. Through time, comradery is lost with those of like age. Activities for seniors not only give social support, but they can offer individuals who understand. Having a healthy social life can add so much to one’s life. Networking with neighbors and friends around the same age can do a body good.

Seniors are great assets as volunteers.  Don’t be afraid to offer anything you can to organizations, clubs, and other people.  Knowledge comes from experience, and wisdom comes from years of practicing. Both of these things are abounding in the older generations. Seniors are an untapped asset that can contribute greatly.

From me to you… your life thus far has been caring for others. Enjoy the fruits of your labor by being an active, contributing senior citizen. Replace the loneliness in your life with a contribution of a warm heart, caring smile, talent, or trade.  The younger generations can always benefit from wisdom and support from you.
